Capt. Karl Branch is currently a member of the executive management team of Barbados Port Inc. and previously held the position of Information Systems Manager. Karl holds the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) designation. He has benefitted from advanced port management studies at Le Harve, France where he was valedictorian of the 2014 cohort. He has also gained the Certified Port Executive designation and has the distinction to be the Barbados Port Inc’s first Executive Manager with responsibility for Innovation and Corporate Services. Karl holds both a BSc in Computer Science and Mathematics and an MSc in Project Management and Evaluation from the University of the West Indies.
Capt. Branch served in the Barbados Defence Force, and retired as head of its Military Intelligence Unit. During his military career, he received the Chief of Staff Badge of Commendation for his performance in regional intelligence. He is also the recipient of the Efficiency Decoration of the Barbados Defence Board.
Karl has been instrumental in efforts to converge the disciplines of technology and traditional security and introduced the utilization of artificial intelligence derived from digital monitoring platforms to support Port operations, cyber security and risk mitigation.
He represents Barbados Port Inc. which was recently re-elected to chair the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to the OAS Inter-American Committee on Ports.
Karl is also the chairman of the stakeholder steering committee with responsibility for the development of a Port Community System for Barbados. This innovative PCS will be developed in conjunction with OAS expertise and will be the first of its kind to incorporate cargo management with cruise operations management, environmental and law enforcement intelligence to support multipurpose ports.
